Pair of antique plates commemorating the 1855 Crimean War battles at Malakoff and Napoleon III’s 1859 Second Italian War for Independence ventures. Features Patrice de MacMahon, of an aristocratic Franco-Irish family, later Duke of Magenta and second President of the French Republic. Incised late-19th-century mark of HB Choisy le Roi en verso. Age discoloration; one crack.
